Jason's Movie Review: Avatar

I know everybody else has reviewed this film. Here is what I have to say about this film. It continues to sell out theaters across America. James Cameron has done it once again in creating an original movie that is revolutionary. Though the story and elements of the movie have a lack of originality the presentation of these ideas makes them feel fresh. I have heard some compare this movie to Ferngully but I will say there is no comparison. Ferngully never made me feel the way this movie does. The cinematography is breathtaking and brilliant.

Now on to the revolutionary part, the 3d is not cheesy and makes you feel like you are a part of the action. We have come a long way from the cheesy gimmick 3d of old. Also Sam Worthington proves that he can play leading man. In fact I was so impressed that I now cannot wait for the Clash of the Titans remake. One other thing that has me stressed out is people complaining about Sigorney Weaver's smoking in the film. I'm sorry but people find comfort and stress relief in cigarettes and it made the film realistic to me. By the way, she is not even the main character so get over it.

This movie is either one of a kind or a taste of things to come in the 3d realm. Oh, I'd be a fool to leave out the near flawless C.G. of the film. If you haven't seen Avatar yet, go! Unless don't like good film, in that case go see Translemania. Thank you James Cameron. Don't make us wait 12 years for another one.
Final Grade:
A+

Thank you for addressing that there is a clear difference between Ferngully and this film. And even though that the two narratives are somewhat similar (but not by much), but even if they were exactly the same - it just shows how much more bad ass James Cameron is because he can take a regurgitated story line and make it the 2nd highest worldwide grossing film of all time.

However, complaints about Signory Weaver smoking?

Give these people's addresses to me so that I may murder them.

Without trying to justify why the smoking takes place, I'll just address the idea that people need to dig deeper if they plan to criticize a film. With Avatar, there really isn't anything to complain about. So I guess people feel the need to nit pick.

But if you have to nit pick around a film, then really it seems that they only hate it because everyone else loves it. Unless, people are nit picking a horrible film that we all hate, but yet fail to find the true reason why a film sucks. So instead they latch on to one item, and imagine that if that one element where to disappear that everything would magically work it's self out.

Something like this is similar to people complaining about bat-nipples in Batman and Robin. And without going on a huge rant about that film, the problem with that film isn't the bat-nipples. It is lack of storying telling and lack of creative film making that makes that movie what it is.

Basically, if people want to criticize a film they need to try harder than complaining about Signory Weaver smoking. Which a huge population of today's culture still smokes, and if the smoking doesn't seem realistic enough for the story - well then don't worry the blue people that are walking around either.

What I also find interesting, and we've had this discussion before, is James Cameron's ability to have R rated material in a PG-13 film. The Abyss and Titanic (and practically Avatar) have nudity in them and yet a PG-13 rating. Now with Avatar Cameron has also added smoking, which a year ago the MPAA voted would be a deciding factor in giving films and R rating. And yet still a PG-13 rating.

I love Cameron, and I hope the next film is just around the corner.
